About this deal

Considering her history she appears to have become a strong woman who can hold her head up for her family. But also shows many other victims of abuse out there that there is a light at the end of the tunnel, you just need to not give up and find the strength within you to face your abusers and like Dana, hit them where it hurts! She and Heather both have bowel problems which she believes are connected to the anal abuse they suffered as children. She might have been forgiven if she had eventually shown support and love for her child and even asked for forgiveness - instead she sided every time with her daughters enemies! Dana Fowley has shown incredible strength and courage after everything she endured, she is awe-inspiring.

Dana Fowley is surprisingly a woman of standing, I say surprisingly because her childhood was one in which no adult let alone child should ever go through. But Dana is clear that the biggest effort to encourage children to speak out needs to be made in primary school, when the child has fewer barriers to telling.

I love Dana and Heather for how strong and tall they stand after all the hurt that was dished out to them. She tells her story, not so much in detail, but with an honesty that the reader cannot help but respect - and she gives mentions to the good times and few good people in her life as well as the many bad.The thing that stays with me after reading this book is that her mother, whether or not she has special needs just let things happen and even involved herself in it. Childline statistics suggest that when a child is abused by a woman, the perpetrator is most likely their mother. Speaking for the first time about what she sees as an unresolved issue in the education system, she says: “I was very quiet at school. The 34-year-old, whose book on her traumatic childhood became a bestseller, said she "wanted to vomit" at learning the news. That the main instigator of the paedophile ring was actually the mother of the two abused girls is shocking enough, but that the girl’s father, step-father and grandparents all took part in the abuse is disturbing.

Yet the question that went unasked in the resulting media furore was why, throughout all those desperate years, no one detected any sign of her torment or made a move to protect Dana and her sister Heather. She'll actually have a conversation with you about how other people should be in jail, like she wasn't involved in it. I am sure there are other people out there that thank you for making more people aware of such stuff. I found I was in tears reading this and Dana is a very brave person, Paul is so supportive thank goodness. She went to the graveside, joined in the family display of grief, then while the others went on to the wake, she went back home alone and sat on the bed where she had been raped so many times. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. I don't like that those horrible things happened to her, but sinse there's no changing it, I think it's important (and brave) that she's talking about it openly.
